“I was a little skeptical when they said I should do a brake flush/service. If I did it, I would have a warranty on my brake system and if anything ever happens it would be warranted up to $2000. Well, I had an issue with my ABS and traction control unit and I’ll be damned if it wasn’t warranted! I’m bring all our cars in for that as well as a transmission flush and anything else I can get covered. I highly recommend it!👍”

“I took my truck to get work done on the transmission somewhere else which went ok, then to another place to do other repairs which cost 1500 an was given the keys back saying it was running perfect when it still topped out at 70 mph and missfired. A friend told me about Tuffy in walled lake and somehow in one day they fixed multiple problems and made my truck run better then it ever has on top of an amazing price and great customer service. WITHOUT A DOUBT THE BEST PLACE IN MY 17 YEARS OF CAR SERVICE, if you want a place you can trust to fix your vehicle without worrying about being screwed over or over priced THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO!! I will personally back them with my own checkbook knowing it would never be a problem! Being a motor head and loving my truck more then anything, what they did for me was one of the nicest things ive ever had done for me and they made one of my most frustrating 3 months turn a 180 soon as they handed me back my keys. Tuffy of Walled Lake will forever have my business and anyone else I know, I will forever be greatfull and loyal to them. “I have had both my foreign and American cars serviced at Tuffy's for many years and have always been very pleased . Art, the owner, is honest and explains what work is needed. One of my cars is 16 yrs old and is still in great condition. At times he has convinced me not to do some minor repairs simply because it was not cost-effective on an old car. Good advice. Although it is a neighborhood repair shop, they can handle all the same repair and maintenance as the large dealerships. If they do not do certain types of work, Art will help you find a place that does. When I needed upholstery repairs, Art referred me to an excellent trim shop. Prices are very fair and much less than at a dealership. Recently, Art recommended a new fuel pump at a $600 cost. As a general rule, I get a"second opinion" for the cost of any services, non-auto as well as auto, over $300. Two dealerships quoted $1000. Alsos, I don't believe i have ever been charged for diagnostic service, even when I may not have any wok done. An added bonus at Tuffy's is the waiting room which is filled with automobile artifacts and fun memorebelia. ”

“I can't believe this! An oil change, tire rotation, and inspection for only $20?! I didn't mention the bad oil leak I'd been noticing, hoping the mechanic would find the cause. Art brought me out to show me where my oil was leaking, due an issue with the oil plug that was messed up at the previous shop. They mechanic fixed it and sealed up the area tight and there wasn't a drop in my driveway the next day. I only wish I would have brought all of my cars here! They guys and gal were all very friendly and honest, and I got really good vibes overall. I knew my car was in good hands. Clearly I'm not alone, because the parking lot and showroom were packed. ”

Go into the store on any day and you will find not only new customers like myself, but "old timers" who have obviously been coming back for years. It is easy to see why. Not only was the service fast, but the man at the front desk was unfailingly courteous and answered my questions completely and in an easily understandable way. (Also, I have to add, the interior decor of the front waiting room is probably the most fun that you'll ever see in an auto repair shop. “I was housesitting in Bloomfield when my alternator decided to die. Living in Oxford, it's a 45 minute drive. After looking up auto shops near me, I found Tuffy. And after looking at their reviews I was sure this was where I needed to take my car. Art and mike were super honest, and willing to make payment arrangements for me. Obviously, this is never what anyone wants to happen. After getting the alternator and battery replaced, I drove home. A few days later my car died again. I was able to get it towed back to Art and he told me my alternator belt was too big and wasn't pulling enough to charge my battery. He then investigated further and said I needed a new radiator can't and cap. I drive a 98 Honda Civic, and the bolts on the radiator were so old they possibly would have to get a whole new radiator. He was able to get it off, but it was cracked and was leaking from 3 of the 4 corners. I had some previous overheating problems, so I knew something was wrong. Honestly, this was the best experience I've had with an auto shop. He was fair, honest, and even showed me the melted fan and cracked radiator. They ended up delivering the wrong type of fan for my car.. So Art got me a rental, on him, until my car was ready to go. I will recommend Art and his team to anyone. You will not be disappointed!”

I noticed how there were long term customers that were coming and going and I loved how honest the staff was in explaining what was needed to be done with my car. My car had a rattling sound from a lose metal piece that had lost its place and they had temp. fixed it for free which was very generous. You can tell these people have a lot of dedication in doing their job but can also throw in some humor and fun into it. “My wife and I wanted to help a young woman from our church who had just bought an older used car, and which developed rear brake grinding within days. She had been applying all over for work, and was finally about to start a part time job, but was still at least 3 weeks from a paycheck (and down to her last month's rent). We had her bring the car to Walled Lake Tuffy and Art showed unbelievable kindness and thoroughness in caring for the repairs! The combined expense to us for parts and labor was amazing (unbeatable when comparing to estimates elsewhere). Dennis also discovered a very dangerous situation in the front, where the used car dealership had just done a new brake job. The caliper had not been replaced and was spraying brake fluid on the inside of the tire every time our friend hit the pedal (unknown to her), and the brakes would have failed in just a short time. We were so thankful that they caught it. Art and Dennis also explained everything and visually showed us the problems and worn or malfunctioning parts along the way. In summary, Art did exactly what he said he would do...and more! To say that we were satisfied would be an understatement! We were blessed to do business with him and will continue to recommend him to anyone who needs the services his Walled Lake Tuffy service center provides! Thank you, Art!”

“We have 3 teen/young adult children that have older 'beater' cars. We began taking all the cars to Walled Lake Tuffy about 2 years ago because we found their prices to be fair, the work done well and we were always treated very fairly and politely. About a month ago we took our son's '93 Saturn for a full brake replacement and few other minor fixes including a new bearing. Four weeks later the car wouldn't drive and was stuck in Royal Oak, more than 20 miles from our home. We had it towed to a local repair shop who, upon inspection, told us it had a bad bearing and the axle was cracked. When we called Art at Walled Lake Tuffy, we weren't sure what to expect but we certainly didn't expect what he did. He told us that he would stand behind his prior repair 100%. He had the car towed from Madison Heights to Walled Lake and repaired the bearing and the axle completely free of charge. Some may think that this should have been expected but our own past experience could not prepare us for this superior customer service. Expectations and reality are usually widely disparate. Art, we want to thank you and your team from the bottom of our hearts! The teen-twenty-something age group is very expensive and we are exhausted just trying to keep up with all of their needs and expenses. I repeatedly told them to have the vehicle ready for me for Monday when I dropped it off on Fri evening. They said no problem. But it was not done until Mon morning. “Last Friday 11/11/11 I was in the area on business. I was coming from the Grand Rapids area. After diving to the area and around, I noticed a high pitched whining noise. My first thought...transmission. I figured I better stop somewhere and have it checked at the least. I was passing by this Tuffy shop and for some reason it just looked like they knew what they were doing. I tend to trust my gut feelings. This was definitely one of those times that my gut feeling was right. Not only did they find out that the whining noise was the alternator, but they had pointed out that my transmission fluid was in poor condition. I had taken it in to several places that said that it was fine. This place was the only honest place I've found in years. During my wait there I got the chance to see how they treat their customers. They told everybody the strait talk. Until the last few years I used to do all the work on my cars and friends cars so I know when the BS is flying. I met several of his customers, they all told me that they only take their vehicles here. I met people that told me that their whole family comes to this place. Art the owner's sense of humor was worth the trip alone. All the guys there treated the customers as if they were friends. The waiting room is like a museum, Toys for kids and all sorts of interesting things to look at. It was actually the best part of my trip. Well except having the car trouble that made me go there. They did the work and got me back on the road and heading home that day. And it;s been running better than it has in a while. Thanks!”

After gathering several estimates to repair my exhaust system ranging from $1000 to $400 I stopped in for a final estimate from this Tuffy location, where I met Art. I took my 2006 bmw 650i in for brake work (the brakes did not work), and then I quickly recevied a call from Art (the owner himself!) adivsing me that the car was the subject of a recall, for the very problem I was having, and that I should take it to the BMW delaership. The recall required the replacement of the master cylinder, the brake booster and various brake lines, a $3500+ job. Had Art not been so honest, he could hve easily charged me for that repair and I would never have been the wiser. He did not even charge for the diagnosis of the problem! “New to the Walled Lake area, my car decided it was going to break down and start leaking coolant all over the place. There are a lot of places in the area to take your car for repairs. After playing "eni-meani-miny-moe" I came up with Tuffy Auto Repair. First I called to see when I could bring it in, Art told me to just "bring it right over, we'll get it looked at". There were probably 10 other cars in the lot before I even got there. Within an hour Art was calling to tell me what the repairs were, and how much it was going to cost. “Stopped in one morning while my kid was at soccer camp. Got 2 Monroe shocks at price of 1 and had a couon for free oil change and free wiper blades. Installed price for shocks was significantly less than a major competitor. I was done in about an hour but I would recommend call first -they are very busy shop! One shock broke a little less than a year later and it was replaced at no charge to me even though I was technically just over the allowed 12K mileage on the warranty. FYI, there are good restaurants, coffee shops and a good hardware store right across the street. The mechanics are very approachable and bring you out to walk around the car on the hoist. “A great Place First I would like to start off by saying that these one-star reviews that don't actually review the shop nor have they even had work done there are a joke as is the ignorant assumptions they make about people leaving 5-star reviews. I own a 1990 Lincoln Mark VII LSC that I have been slowly restoring, I took it to the Valvoline oil change shop in Novi for a flush and fill on the trans, oil change, the works. The guy doing the oil change barked out that the oil change couldn't be done because I had a crack in the pan. I was suspicious but I saw no reason why he would lie about such a problem. I took it to Varsity Lincoln which was going to charge me over $900.00 for the work. Before I shelled out the price, my girlfriend referred me to Tuffy in Walled Lake for a second opinion. My suspicions were correct and it turned out to be a very minor fix. Art was also able to fix a irritating squeak from the drivers side along with pointing out that my mufflers need doing. In the process of working on my car, one of the mechanics injured himself, yet still took the time to contact me about my car. “Tuffy Walled Lake - You'll Be Glad You Switched!!! We've had two extremely good experiences with Art at Tuffy Muffler in Walled Lake. My husband was on his way to work early one morning when his muffler fell off. The closest place I found on the web was Tuffy in Walled Lake. He was able to get the car towed there. It was obvious Art was not “out to get us”. He knew what needed to be done and gave my husband the best price. Art overheard our phone conversation in which we were trying to figure out the best way for us to pay for this repair and asked my husband if this was going to create a hardship. To that my husband answered no, as he swallowed his pride. When the repair was done and the bill was being paid, Art asked my husband what he was having for lunch, and after my husband described the minimal lunch he packed for the day, Art reduced the price $5 and told my husband to have a $5 sub at Subway on him for lunch. Ever hear of an auto repair shop doing that? Never! Our second vehicle is a mini-van. I've been hearing noises coming from the front passenger side tire area when I drive over the slightest of imperfections in the road … kind of a jingling type noise. I went to a "well-known tire shop" where they told me the tie rods were loose, and the estimate was $227. I just wasn't confident I wasn't being “taken for a ride”, so we decided to drive 20 miles to Art to see what he had to say about that. He and the mechanic took my husband back to show him, after tugging profusely, that the tie rods were NOT loose and that we were just missing the caliper brake kit which, after having them do the repair, cost us just $65 instead of $227! What a relief with our financial condition suffering. Now, for the kicker … we just had brakes done last year by that same "well-known tire shop". What are the chances they didn't put that on to begin with to ensure repeat business? And … would they have replaced the tie rods at $227, and also put that caliper brake kit on, so the noise would stop. If that's how they do business, we want no part of it! We highly recommend Art at Tuffy in Walled Lake, and already have, because he is honest and truly compassionate. He does not make additional repairs that are not required just to get your money! “Excellent Service - Trustworthy Technicians I recently took my 2001 BMW to the Tuffys in Walled Lake for service. I bought this car last April and it's been one pricey repair after another. I was told by another service center that I had several expensive repairs that needed attention, and I wanted a second opinion. Tuffys confirmed that most of the previously quoted repairs were necessary, then they worked with my extended warranty company to get as much covered as possible. Even after getting several items covered, I still owed about $1800 out of pocket. I was overwhelmed by the amount, but they were happy to let me make several payments over the next few months so I could have the work done and drive a safe vehicle. My entire experience with Art and Pete was positive. I cannot speak for the few negative reviews on this website, I can only attest to the experience I had, and based on that, I'd refer everyone to this Tuffys. I believe they gave me the best price for the work done, as well as throwing in a free oil change (which can be quite expensive on a BMW), and by giving me the option of making payments, allowed me to get the work done. I'm presently laid off from my job and could not have afforded it otherwise. Regarding some of the emails suggesting that the excellent reviews listed on this website are fakes, I absolutely disagree. As a customer who stated I was happy with the service I received, I was asked by the Tuffys' staff if I wouldn't mind giving them an online review, and I'm happy to do it. So for the few who suspect these are fraudulent reviews, I say it's simply happy customers who have been asked to give their honest opinions online. And regarding the reviews that were less than exemplary, may I also suggest that everyone has good days and bad days and it is virtually impossible to make everyone happy all of the time. Art has been very reasonable on issues of cost and I've personally seen him do nice things for customers because it's the right way to do business. I've had 4 or 5 things done there from brakes to engine work and been completely satisfied every time... and who doesn't want that! ”

“Honest, EXCEPTIONAL quality of work, integrity, fair pricing...AMAZING! (For years!!!!) 5 stars is not enough for this place! I have been a LOYAL customer of 6 YEARS because Art and his staff have been loyal to doing good, honest business with me and exceptional work on my cars. I have paid upwards of $15 extra over insurance coverage to have my car towed to THIS Tuffy because 1) Art has very competitive prices, often a little below other (less reputable and service oriented) providers in the area (he has saved me SO much money!), 2) he employs top-rate mechanics, and 3) has ALWAYS been straight with me on what needs to be done now, what needs to be done soon, and what would be a great thing to do when I can afford it and WHY!!!! How many people can RAVE about what a great mechanic they have and how much you TRUST them? I reccomend this Tuffy based on Art and his staff to ANYONE who needs as little as an oil change and as much as a transmission repair. No one touches my car but these guys, and nothing you could say would change my mind. ”

“A Rare "Trustworthy" Shop I have nothing but good things to say about my 1st experience with Art and my mechanic at this particular shop. I even tested my mechanic. He didnt try and sell me something I didnt need and that is a very rare occasion these days. I observed Art at work while in the waiting area for a little over 2 hours and had nothing but admiration and respect for the way he ran his business. I saw him lose money on a job with a smile and donate nicely to the Walled Lake school rep that came in with the same smile. I see these con artist posts and find them hard to believe. Sad. If this sounds cheesy - so be it - Im just a fan of seeing good old fashion integrity on the job. Nice job on the truck too!! ~ ”

“someone I can trust I was at this auto shop a couple of years ago and they did a great job. But due to the location, not being convenient to my home and work, I've tried a couple of other places to get my car fixed. Its been awful. So, even though it was out of my way, I've I went back to this tuffy. I'm very happy with the quality of work and service I've been given each time. When I goggled this tuffy to get the phone number, I was upset to see the bad review. I can only say that my personal experiences with this auto shop taking car of my aging cars has been all good! ”

“The only place I trust to fix my car. I have been going to Tuffy in Walled Lake for a few years now. I have not been living in the area very long and I have been to other auto mechanics before I found Tuffy. Tuffy in Walled Lake is the only place I will go to now to get my car fixed. I dont care if I move 50 miles away I will still go to Tuffy. whats nice is that their open on Saturdays.Thats important to me. Art is the nicest guy you will ever meet. Everybody there is very nice! It was really hard for me to find an auto mechanic that I could trust. Well I found one...and thats Tuffy in Walled Lake MI. Nobody works on my car except Tuffy!! ”

“Best Repair Shop Around Most of my life I thought the words "fair" and "mechanic" created an oxymoron...until I met Art at his Walled Lake Tuffy Auto Service Center. I used to dread having to bring my vehicle into a shop, either for an inspection, an oil change or a specific mechanical problem - because I just KNEW I'd have to endure the up-sell of the century. Art completely dispels my formerly held belief system to the degree that I am confident and certain that when I take my car in to his center...it will receive the greatest attention with the utmost care and consideration - and I'm positive I'll NEVER have to pay for something that was unnecessary. Knowing very little about automotive-related matters, I'd always been an easy mark, but knowing I have Mr. Rott on my side is a genuine relief. I cannot recommend him or his shop highly enough! I know dozens of people that will not take their vehicles ANYWHERE else and some that drive over 100 miles to have Art and his staff attend to all of their mechanical needs. ON A SIDE NOTE: If you know anything about phantom bloggers or peoples' writing styles in general, it is clear that the negative reviews seen here are ALL submitted by the same individual; one that obviously has mental issues that a master mechanic could not even attempt to repair. Whomever that person may be and as insistent upon driving his or her message to the top of this review page daily as they are - they really ought to seriously consider thumbing through the Yellow Pages to select a competent therapist from the Professional Psychological Services section, and then, by all means, call them immediately! It might ease their pain a bit. And...this way a wonderful man with a good heart and talented mechanical skills (Art Rott) won't have to waste a minute longer concerning himself with bogus reviews by a lone oddball. Show less”
